Buying a keyboard or Piano -here’s some help deciding

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

For those who're considering which instrument they should buy, but dont know the differences bewteen a grand piano and a keyboard, heres a list of pros and cons- starting with the keyboard.

Piano -There are three main types of piano: The grand piano, upright pianos or the electronic pianos. Grand pianos range from 2m-3m for parlor grands, to 1m-2m for the boudoir grand to smaller sized baby pianos. The pianos size really is an issue which you dont really have to deal with when owning a keyboard. Unless you have money and room in your house for them, owning a grand piano isnt really option, as even the baby grand is quite big. The advantage with a piano this big is the sound. Piano players sing the praises of grand pianos because they sound brilliant due to the size, which allows for longer strings inside of the piano, and better sound due to the lower harmonics and frequencies. Baby grand piano's have shorter, but thicker strings inside it to gain back some of the sound lost in size (like a bass guitar). Thickers strings benefit a smaller instrument because the thicker strings give more tension, and more clarity.

How merchandise sales can help YOUR band

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

What are the benefits of branded merchandise for your band? Lets take a closer look at one of the Brit award winners from last night to highlight a point.

Iron maiden, The band won 'best live band' last night to the delight of headbangers everywhere. (UP THE IRONS!). I went to Maiden's twickenham gig in June last year, and there were 5 seperate full-sized merchandise stands around and inside the venue which were always packed. one of the music industires dirty secrets: bands dont make money on album sales generally, but on touring and merchandise sales. Bands such as Maiden and Metallica sell thousands of t-shirts at concerts, which depending on the stadum size and t-shirt prices can be a very profitable gig. But when they were a smaller band in the late 70's early 80s The sales of iron maiden's zombie buddy Eddie on a t-shirt help keep the band on the road until their career reached a new peak with number of the beast, where things became alittle easier financially. Bands such as the infamous Cannibal Corpse sell merchandise and the gorey and bloody designs that sit proudly on the shirts. You cant expect anything more from a band with an album called 'gallery of suicide'. Merch sales have beenable to let them keep touring for years.
